Jets win big over Raiders
Tuesday 5th of May, 2009

Once again the Jets were undermanned going into the game with ruckman Andy Treanor the latest addition to the injury list after fracturing a finger the previous week. With only 10 players available, the Jets would have only one bench player to start with, and by the second half there was none when Sean Nievaart was forced from the ground with leg soreness.

In some good news for the club, star defender Ryan Lorseyedi was welcomed back from a four week layoff with a hamstring injury, and the boys were relieved to see him get through the game and even show glimpses of his old form. Also, rookies Korbin Stein and Garrett Hernandez would finally get the opportunity to play in a full game for the Jets, and they took their chances and both showed how far they have come in a short time with excellent performances.

With Kelly Nelson putting in another best on ground performance, and Ben Vadasz and Qemal Shaholli providing excellent support, the Jets got on top after a close first quarter. From there OC piled on the pressure with some accurate goalkicking helping to tick the scoreboard over. In the end the Jets ran out comfortable winners in a match that restored some confidence in the group.

With a 2 week break before the final round of the SCAFL season, and a further 2 weeks until the Grand Final rematch against Beachside, it is hoped that players carrying injuries will have enough time to recover, and that the Jets will finally be close to full strength when it matters most.
