Round 1 of the 2009 SCAFL season bounces off this weekend with the Orange County Jets hosting both matches at Southlake Middle School located at 655 West Yale Loop, Irvine, CA 92614, on Sunday March 8.

The first match will bounce-up at 11:00 am (don’t forget to move your clocks forward 1 hour before you go to sleep on Saturday night) and feature the Riverside Raiders taking on the Los Angeles Swans. The Raiders finished off the 2008 season in strongly recording wins in two of their last three matches. The Swans are looking to get back to the top half of the ladder this year after winning the 1st SCAFL Premiership in 2006.

The second match will pit the visiting Beachside Sharks against the defending 2008 Premiers the Orange County Jets. The two clubs split their four games last year with the Jets running out as winners to win their first Premiership in three tries. The rivalry continues this weekend at approximately 1:00 pm (40 minutes after the conclusion of the first match).

Please come out and support Australian Rules Football in Southern California. If you’ve seen “Footy” before you’ll be treated to a fairly good standard. If you haven’t seen it before you will experience a sport that has the athleticism of basketball, the skill of soccer, with the contact of American football, all with no timeouts and relatively few stoppages of play.
