On Saturday May 31 the SCAFL/OC Bombers hosted the Golden Gate Roos on the lush grounds of the Cal Poly University in Pomona, and came away with a huge win, defeating the Roos by 116 points.

With the SCAFL Metro League season well under way, and 4 strong teams competing and training over the last few months, the selectors were faced with a large squad to choose from and in a first for the Bombers, the coaching staff decided to pick a team of 24 players only. This meant that there was healthy competition amongst the players to fight for a spot in the side, and training over the last few weeks has lifted and been intense. Head coach John Fragomeni made it clear what was expected for a player to be considered for selection, and after a difficult selection process the final team was announced on the Thursday night prior to the game at a club dinner.

Included in the 24 SCAFL members selected for the Bombers tilt with the Roos were 11 Jets. A combination of longtime OC Bomber veterans and first year Jets players were selected. The combined SCAFL trainings that have taken place over the last month and a half proved to be beneficial to Jets and SCAFL players alike as the Bombers ran out to a convincing win over their Northern California neighbors: OC 22.8 (140) to GG 4 (24).

It is unfair to point out individuals that stood out during the game, as it was truly a team win. Each Jet that took the field, as well as every other SCAFL member selected made a positive contribution during the game. The positive result leaves a sense of accomplishment, but also reinforces the competitiveness that has developed amongst the SCAFL and the notion that selection to the Senior OC Bombers club is not a given for anyone. Continued hard work on and off the training grounds, and commitment to both the team and the individual to improve is critical as the season progresses.

The SCAFL season resumes Sunday, June 8, in Azusa with the Jets taking on the Sharks in Round 7 following the Raiders/Jets match-up which begins at 10 am.
