In a new initiative from the Raider's Deron Lien, a new prize was on offer for the winner of the latest clash between the OC Jets and the Riverside Raiders.
Named after a pioneer of footy in this area, the Jon Egan trophy represents a history of 10 years between these two clubs, and will be fought over for many years to come.
On this occasion it was the OC Jets that came away with the win, based on the strong defensive line of KB Nelson, Kelly Nelson and Seb Aguiari. A new midfield setup gave great service, with Kieron Mulcahy winning in the ruck, and Mark Larson and RJ Meza getting first option and sending the ball forward well. An injured Leigh Bridges lined up at full forward and had his usual impact despite his injury, while Donnie Lucero played up the ground and combined with regular goalsneak Mark Harrison to put on a good score and take control of the game. The forwards rotated regularly once again, with Ryan Lorseyedi and Chris McNeil coming off the bench to good effect, and the final siren saw the Jets comfortable winners in a tough match that wasn't really reflected on the scoreboard.
Round 4 is the Jets first home game for the season, next Sunday against the Beachside Sharks which will be, if recent history is any indication, another hard game of footy. |
