The game was a great exhibition of Australian football, the skills from both sides were impressive and made for a terrific contest. But it was the athleticism and enthusiasm of the new, young, first and second year Jets that really stood out and made the difference in the end.
Tyler Mounce had a big job on Sharks ruckman Ryan Weller who has been dominant for his side this year. Tyler had to run with Weller all day, and although Wellsy was still one of the best players, so was Ty who never stopped working and made Wellsy feel every contest.
Zack Caspary continued his stunning form with an electrifying first quarter, before leaving the ground with an ankle injury and not returning. Hopefully there is no structural damage and he will be back on the field in the next week or two.
Jimmy Zertuche returned from a hamstring injury to play his second ever game, and was impressive at center-half-forward taking solid marks and creating opportunities in the forward line.
Meanwhile other first year players made the most of their chances with the gametime they got. Mitch Lasser, Steve Rydzon and Christian Dulu all came off the bench to kick much needed goals within minutes of taking the field.
One of the more pleasing aspects of the win was the spread of goalkickers which reflected the team-style of play that the Jets are becoming known for. 9 goalkickers contributed to the 11 goal total, with midfielder Brad Wetherall the only multiple score with 3 in a best on ground performance.
Other highlights were big Andy Treanor throwing his weight around at full forward in his best game so far; the defense again holding firm with Steve Tait and Mike Hertstien combining nicely and giving great run off half back; and the midfield combination of Mounce, Nelson, Wetherall and Lima that continues to improve, as does the whole side.
It was another even performance and another good team win for the Jets, as they continue to improve the more they play.
