Sharks down the Jets
Tuesday 16th of March, 2010

Ironically, the day started out brightly for the Jets as they combined nicely to dominate the first quarter. The players were moving the ball well and controlling the game across the field, and probably should have got a better return for the quarter than 2 goals 2. The defense was solid again however, and kept the Sharks to only 2 points for the quarter.

The Jets were upbeat at the first break, and perhaps got a little ahead of themselves. Like all good sides, the Sharks were always going to hit back and they did, kicking 2 goals for the quarter while the Jets could only manage 3 points. The Jets would go into half time still clinging to a 1 point lead, but that would soon evaporate.

The Sharks went on a rampage in the second half, kicking 7 goals to the Jets 1 to record a solid win over their southern rivals. It could have been worse for the Jets if not for the new-look defense who, led by full back and new recruit Steve Tait, did their best to stem the onslaught.

Not a great day for the Jets and one they will put behind them pretty quickly. But on the positive side the host of rookies and new recruits got some valuable match time together and the development continues to impress. The Jets are a completely different side to previous years and it will take time to rebuild and get back to playing their best football, but there have been signs over the last two weeks that this may not be too far away.

The challenge now for this new group of rookies, recruits, and a few established players is to work together over the coming weeks to become a good side capable of defending their SCAFL title.
