Jets vs. Sharks in Footy
Friday 29th of May, 2009

West Side Story comes to it's dramatic conclusion this Sunday, in South Orange County at 12 pm in Ladera Ranch. Although this version of West Side Story features the Jets vs. the Sharks, it's not played out on a stage, and the outcome is not yet known. This version's outcome will be decided on a Footy oval and will match the Sharks (Beachside edition) and the Jets (Orange County edition) in the Grand Final of the Southern California Australian Football League (SCAFL), and should feature far more drama and tougher blokes than the famous “West Side Story “ film/play, and fictional characters portrayed therein.

The Sharks, sporting a 8 – 1 SCAFL season record, will be lead into the match by their two main Jet antagonists, Simon Sweeney and Paul Lindley, who will endeavor to lead their unit to victory. Supporting characters that have shown strong for the Sharks all season, Josh De Blank, Frederik Schulin, and SCAFL newcomer Rob Lutotanski will put forth their best effort to keep the two-game winning streak against the Jets going, and gain a measure of vengeance for last year's loss to the Jets in the 2007 Granny.

The Jets, donning a 7 – 2 mark, will be lead by protagonists Caption Q (Qemal Shaholli) and Vice-Captain Kelly Nelson, trying to get over on the Sharks for the two regular season losses by less than a goal each. Supporting chracters include Andrew Treanor, who has returned to form after missing the '08 season, and back-line crewmembers Mike Hertstein, Sebastian Aguiari, and KB Nelson who have held down the defensive side all season while facilitating scoring chances as opportunities present themselves. Newcomers to the side Ben Vadasz and Brad Wetherall, have assisted veterens Chris McNeil and Mark Harrison in providing the offensive surge for the Jets.

Please join us at Founders Park in Ladera Ranch (msn map link: http://maps.live.com/?v=2&encType=1&cid=AE43974E91738AE!169. There is no address for the park, but if you click on the flag #1 a pop-up menu will appear on the map and select "Drive to" to get directions from your departure point). on Sunday, May 31 for our version of West Side Story: the 2009 SCAFL Grand Final. We think you'll find it much more entertaining unpredictable, and exciting.

The LA Swans and Riverside FC will play off for 3rd place in the consolation final starting at 10am, this will be followed by the Grand Final at noon.

Following the games the SCAFL will be wrapping up the season with a bbq nearby, where all awards from the GF and the regular season will be presented, including the announcement of the inaugural SCAFL All Star team.

All are welcome to attend both events, information on the bbq will be available at the ground. So come down and enjoy a great day of Aussie Rules Football, and help the SCAFL celebrate a successful season that has uncovered some exciting new talent. This is your last chance to catch a SCAFL game this year before the players start training together and shift their focus towards the Bombers 18-a-side season.
